·        The Venny Awards are back for the second summer!!!   --- Our 2nd Annual Venny Awards will be awarded at the Venturing Camporee on September 28 at Camp La-No-Che. We'll also be awarding plaques this year. Your production will be shown at the Venny Awards Tent at the Camporee, so don't delay, get going today. STILL PHOTOGRAPHERS TAKE NOTE:  We've got a special place for you in this years program as well. As a part of the BSA 100th Anniversary Photo Contest (see www.scouting.org/photo/ for more information.  For details or help in completing your Vennywood Production, contact Rocky Raby at 321-609-0135 or email at cfc_venturing@yahoo.com     See the flier for guidelines and more info on this incredible opportunity to 'Show Us Your Crew!!!'

·    Wilderness First Aid (WFA 16 hours program) – Current session is full - Dates for next session will be announced shortly – WFA is now a pre-requisite for some Philmont high adventure programs and other High Adventure activities (check your program literature for details).  This is a practical 16-hour course that prepares you to recognize and avoid wilderness hazards and to provide first aid with whatever equipment you have or can improvise. This intense two-day program is for mature individuals and is essential for those who enjoy the wilderness or may be where emergency services are not available. Upon successful completion of all requirements (both days), participants will receive a nationally recognized Completion of Training Record valid for three years. Great for hurricane preparedness. · Venturing at Council Camporee – September 26 – 28, 2008 - Deadline for registration is August 31, 2008. Join Venturers from all over the state at Camp La-No-Che to compete and have fun!  We start off the fun Friday night with fellowship time and cracker barrel.  On Saturday, besides the above activities, there will be carnival midway games and other fun events planned.  Then join us to listen to professional bands and end the night with an awesome laser light show from a nationally known company! · Marlinespike Conference – November 7-9 and November 21-23, 2008 - The Central Florida Council will host a Marlinespike conference.    The Marlinespike Conference consists of a standard set of education modules and optional education modules relevant to our yachting environment. Additional registration information for this Central Florida Council event will be forthcoming. · Venturing Training Weekend – Camp La-No-Che – January 9-11, 2009 – All the Venturing training for youth and adults in one weekend. Details and registration information will be available in the Fall 2008.

·  Powder Horn – Returning to Central Florida in the Spring 2009 - The Powder Horn course is designed to introduce and expose Venturing and Boy Scouting adult unit leaders to the activities and resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor/high adventure unit-level program.  It is intended to help adult leaders get out of the box in finding and using resources. .

· Kodiak –  August 2-8, 2009 – New hands-on Venturing Leadership program for Venturers. For the BSA Fact Sheet click here. Southern Region Sea Scouts

Southern Region Yachting Initiative - The purpose of the Venturing Yachting Initiative is to support Council Venturing with Sailing and Boating resource, education, training, and activity material for Venturing leaders and youth.

Sea Scouts BSA - Sea Scouts is a specialized segment of the Venturing program, which was organized to address members' boating skills and promote knowledge of our maritime heritage. Sea Scout units, called "ships," focus on sailing and cruising either sailboats or power vessels.
